FCL vs LCL: which container option do you need?
Two letters that change how your sea freight is priced and handled.

FCL: Full Container Load
Your cargo has an entire container to itself. Nobody else's goods share the space, which means simpler paperwork, no waiting for other shippers' cargo to be consolidated, and typically the better cost-per-unit once your volume is large enough to justify booking a whole container.
LCL: Less than Container Load
Your goods share a container with other shippers' cargo, and you pay only for the space you use. This is the practical choice when your volume doesn't come close to filling a container on its own; splitting the cost of the container across several shippers keeps it affordable.
Rough guide: shipping close to a full container's worth, ask for FCL. Shipping a pallet or two, LCL is usually cheaper.
The trade-offs beyond price
FCL tends to move slightly faster port-to-port since there's no consolidation or deconsolidation step at either end. LCL adds a little time and handling at both the origin and destination port as your goods are grouped with, and then separated from, other shipments. For most first-time or lower-volume shippers, this small time difference is a fair trade for the cost savings.
What doesn't change either way
